The new central library in San Diego features Durapalm flooring and plywood throughout seven of its nine floors, bringing warmth and natural elegance to this modern architectural landmark. Chosen by Rob Quigley Architects to complement the building’s hard surface materials, the palm wood reflects the city’s iconic beachside landscape, where palm trees abound.

From the ground floor to the 9th-floor reading rooms, the rich, warm glow of Durapalm is unmistakable. It enhances key spaces such as the art gallery, rare books section, book stacks, display cases, stage podiums, media consoles, bookshelves, and reading tables. This locally inspired, sustainable material helped achieve the designers’ vision of creating a timeless, iconic public space for the community.
